February Updates!

This February we got started with a new making project in Mrs. Hill's 6th grade history class.  Her students created ancient Greek shields based off of Greek city-states/Gods and Goddesses.  Stop by her room in the A building to come check them out!

The Maker VISTAs also worked on a making project with the parent center!  Parent volunteers helped to create PTA t-shirts using the Cricut machine and once they were finished, were kind enough to make t-shirts for SFMS's counselor team for counselor appreciation week.

In the Makerspace we started work on our first 3D printing unit with our 7th and 8th graders using the 3D design program Tinkercad.  So far we've had out students design and print out keychains, retro gaming controllers, phone cases, and animals.

March Updates

Making at its finest!

This past month a lot has gone on at Makerspace at SFMS.

The Maker Ed class has been hard at work tilling and planting their garden.  This was only made possible thanks to the support of Mr. List from Sylmar Charter High School, who generously donated a large number of plants to the Maker Ed class.

In the science department, Mrs. Gomez led a making project centered around the lungs.  The students in her class used recycled water bottles, balloons, and straws to create a functioning model of a lung and diaphragm.

Lastly, the history department also got up to some making this month in Mrs. Hill's class.  Her students created replica Greek shields modeled after ancient Greek city-states.
